Caption: Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island off the Northumbrian coast, England. This monastery was founded in 635 by Saint Aidan of Iona, an island off the west coast of Scotland. The illuminated manuscripts called the Lindisfarne Gospels were written here during the early 700s. The Holy Island is linked to the mainland by a causeway which is cut off twice a day by tides.
