Caption: Three-toothed orchid flowers (Orchis tridentata). The open flowers of this cluster each show a large three-lobed petal (white with pink spots). This is the lip, a specialised structure that attracts pollinators to the flower. This orchid is found from France to Poland and south to the Middle East and Israel. It is a terrestrial orchid (one that grows in the ground). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
