Caption: Orchid flowers (Schoenorchis hainanensis, also known as S. gemmata). Several flowers are branching out from a central erect stem. Each flower has specialised petal (pink) called the lip. This helps to attract pollinators to the flowers. This orchid is found in South-East Asia and the surrounding area. This specimen is from China. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows on trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
