Caption: Comet orchid (Andraecum sesquipedale) or Madagascar star growing up a tree in the Zombitse nature reserve in Madagascar. This orchid was discovered by Darwin during his jounrey on the HMS Beagle and is also known as Darwin's orchid. The long nectar tubes can grow up to 30 centimetres long and attract the hawk moth Xanthopan morganii praedicta which has a 30 centimetres proboscis making it suitable for fertilising the orchid.
