Caption: Lizard orchid (Himantoglossum hircinum). The lizard orchid is an uncommon variety of orchid growing in grass, scrub, dunes and open woodland across Europe and western north Africa. The plant has an untidy appearance due to the long and twisted labellum (modified petal for attracting insects), and can grow to 90 cm tall. Photographed in Kent, England.
