Caption: Rainforest flower. View of a flower of the plant Barnedesia arborea, native to the tropical rainforests of South America. B. arborea is a member of the daisy family (Compositae). The flower has modified bracts (grey/mauve) just above the flower head. From the compound flower head project several long pink styles. These are the female parts of the compound head's individual flowers. The male stamens are less conspicuous, being filamentous pink strands near the base of the flower head. The species name "arborea" relates to the plant's habitation in and around trees. Photographed in Ecuador.
