Caption: Iris fruit. (5th of 5 images). Close-up of the fruit of a garden iris (Iris germanica). This is a ripe fruiting body which contains seeds. The remnants of the petals can be seen at the top of the fruit. The iris is a tall and elegant plant which lives in grassy areas and flowers from May to June. See photos B570/027-031 for sequence of flower opening.
