Caption: Australian grass trees. Grass trees, Xanthorrhoea australis, in a forest. These are fire-resistant plants that usually only produce their large and distinctive flowers (not seen) after being burned in bush fires. Aborigines used parts of the plant, making spears from the large flower stalk. Photographed in Victoria, Australia.
