Caption: Grass tree (Xanthorrhoea johnsonii). The grass tree is endemic to Australia, where it grows in the bush. The plant is slow-growing and long- lived; living for up to 600 years, but only growing one metre in 100 years. The trunk of the tree is made from old leaf bases held together by a resin.
