Caption: Aerial view of the High-Rise administration build- ing at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory near Chicago, Illinois. The cooling pond in the foreground marks the position of the 150 metre diameter Booster Accelerator, which takes 200 MeV protons from a linear accelerator & boosts them to an energy of 8 GeV for injection into the Tevatron proton accelerator. The 2km diameter underground ring of the Tevatron is marked on the surface by a service road, a small arc of which can be seen at right. An underground switchyard just to the right of the High-Rise deflects accelerated protons for use in the three experimental areas on either side of the road at the top of the picture.
