Caption: Z-DNA. Molecular model of a strand of Z-DNA, the rare, left-handed form of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is a helical molecule (here spiralling across the image) made up of two interlocking sugar-phosphate strands bound together by their nucleotide bases. Here, one strand is pink, and the other strand is yellow. One 'twist' of the helix is seen here. Z-DNA winds to the left, unlike the more common B-DNA form of DNA, which winds to the right (when viewed down the helix). This tubular model, overlaid on a space-filled model, shows 12 base pairs.
