Caption: Double-stranded RNA (ribonucleic acid) molecule, molecular model. The majority of RNA in a cell is in the single-stranded form, but some double-stranded molecules do exist and take on the same double helix form as DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). There are four different bases: guanine, cytosine, adenine and uracil. RNA is the intermediate between DNA, the genetic material, and its product, proteins. It also forms part of ribosomes, the location of protein synthesis. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour coded: carbon (grey), oxygen (red), phosphorous (yellow), nitrogen (purple) and hydrogen (white).
