This image is part of the feature Antisense Dna

Caption: Antisense DNA research. Molecular graphic of an "antisense" molecule about to bind to a fragment of human DNA. At left is part of a long double helix DNA molecule (yellow), containing a gene coloured red/blue. At right is an antisense mole- cule (white, red), a piece of DNA made from oligo- nucleotides and genetically engineered to fit onto the gene. It is hoped that this antisense molecule will block the gene and prevent it from expressing itself. Antisense molecules may be developed to block genes which cause cancer cells to divide; prevent multiplication of the HIV virus (causing AIDS); and treat genetically inherited diseases.
