DNA research. Close-up of a test tube with a sample of DNA which contains between 50,000 to 100,000 genes. It was derived from a patient affected by a genetic disease. The image was taken at the Genethon laboratory near Paris which, together with other laboratories around the world, is involved in the Human Genome project. It is aimed at mapping the DNA of every chromosome in order to locate the genes responsible for a number of inherited disorders. At the Genethon laboratory most of the procedures involved in the DNA sequencing have been automated to speed up this ambitious and painstaking project.
