Four banded lines of a normal cell (at left) are seen beside four banded lines of an infected cell (at right). Two new recombinant proteins appear in the infected cell (two dark bands) as pointed out by the gloved finger. To obtain these new protein recombinations a healthy cell was experimentally infected with baculovirus, an insect virus useful in genetic engineering. The cell was also infected with two other genetically different viruses. This genetic engineering may be used in biotechnology drug manufacture and other viral research.
