Caption: Genome research. Automated gene library at Genethon, Paris, showing equipment handling "megaYACs", vast yeast artificial chromosomes that are used to store large amounts of DNA (1.4 million pairs) in one chunk. The megaYAC is able to store 35 times more DNA than can be held in bacteria such as E.coli, the traditional method of cloning DNA. Much use of robots is made at Genethon in speeding up those tedious & repetitive operations of mapping & sequencing the genome.
