Here, DNA genetic material from the immune system of a patient infected with HIV is being isolated. The light band in the test tube represents DNA marked with a dye. The genetic code of this DNA will then be analysed. By understanding this genetic code, gene therapy and antiviral drugs may be developed to act on the immune system of AIDS patients, and prevent the HIV virus from reproducing.
