Caption: Viral DNA sequence comparison. Computer screen display of the comparison between two DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequences from the genomes of two viruses: adenovirus 5 and adeno- virus 2. DNA sequence is a code representing four chemical bases: A, G, C & T which are seen as coloured letters. Here, the two DNA sequences have been "laid alongside each other" for comparison, with adenovirus 5 sequence on top. Double dots between letters indicate where the sequence is identical between each virus. The numbers indicate the region of each virus's DNA we are looking at. This is an example of a Pearson & Lipman DNA comparison.
