Caption: Obesity DNA research. Computer display of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequence obtained during research into obesity. This image represents DNA- genetic sequence used for comparison between obese and normal individuals. DNA sequencing allows the localisation and identification of any particular mutation. This work is being performed in the laboratories of Prof Froguel at the Pasteur Institute, Paris. Froguel's team has discovered that obesity is linked to a mutation in the gene that produces the appetite-regulating hormone leptin. Analysing the mutant gene will help in developing gene therapies to treat obesity.
