Caption: DNA sequence. Computer print-out of a sequence of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) bases. This is for the human genome project, which aims to find the sequence of all human genes. A multi-well sample tray (upper left) and automated pipettes (lower right) are also seen. DNA is made of two chains linked by a sequence of four bases: adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C) and guanine (G). Specific sequences of these bases form genes. The genome is the full set of genes which determines every characteristic of an organism. This research will give insight into genetic diseases and allow for improved drug design strategies. Photographed at the Sanger Centre in Cambridge, England.
