DNA contains the genetic code that varies between different organisms, producing the different structures and chemistry. It is found in the cell nuclei, and comprises two sugar phosphate strands (blue) in a twisting helical shape. These strands have nucleotide bases (coloured bars) that bond to each other and join the two strands together. It is the sequence of these nucleotide bases that forms the genetic code. Genetic research includes work on the human genome, and genetic engineering of plants, animals and microbes.
