An autoradiogram, also known as a genetic fingerprint, consists of several columns of bands which show a specific sequence of nucleotides. A nucleotide is the basic unit of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), a long molecule that codes for an individual's genes. Each person has their own unique sequence of nucleotides, so the pattern of bands in the autoradiogram is different for each individual. The random numbers may represent a link between DNA fingerprinting and barcoding systems: each object/person has their own unique code.
