Genetic analysis. Researcher preparing a hybridization machine to produce a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) microarray. Hybridization is the process of combining samples of DNA. Differences in the binding can reveal information about the genes encoded in the DNA sample. DNA is the genetic cellular material that is a fundamental basis of the biochemistry of life. A DNA microarray (also called a DNA chip or gene array) can be used to investigate and compare the properties of thousands of genes at once, a process known as expression profiling.
