DNA glass microarrays. Automated machinery (left) depositing DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) samples on glass slides to create DNA microarrays (also called DNA chips or gene arrays). DNA is the genetic material that mediates the biochemistry of a cell. A DNA microarray consists of an array of microscopic spots of DNA that are detected by fluorescent methods. The microarray can be used to investigate and compare the properties of thousands of genes at once. Photographed in France.
