Molecular model of antiviral drug & rhinovirus-14

Molecular model of antiviral drug & rhinovirus-14

Rights Managed

Cold virus research: molecular modelling of the potential interaction of W-84, an antiviral drug (centre, blue spheres) with rhinovirus-14, a virus causing the common cold. A part of the virus appears in cross-section (gold). Rhinovirus belongs to the picornavirus (small RNA viruses) group, which also includes the enteroviruses & the agent of foot & mouth disease in cattle. They are all relatively small (24-35 nanometres diameter), non-enveloped, with their genetic information held in the form of RNA. Rhinovirus infects the nose & throat, & is spread in droplet form by talking, coughing & sneezing.
