Caption: Animal cloning research. Surgery being performed on a rabbit as part of a series of laboratory experiments on animal cloning and transgenic animals. In cloning, the genetic material from the cell of the animal to be copied is implanted into an egg cell (ovum) from which the genetic material has been removed. This surgery is taking place at the Scientific-Industrial Biotechnological Centre of Animal Breeding at the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (RASHN). Photographed in 1999, in the Moscow region of Russia.
