The pattern of bands represents the sequence of the four chemicals that form the genetic code for a section of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Cloning involves forming genetically-identical copies of an organism. In the future, humans could be cloned by placing an adult cell nucleus into an egg that has had its own genetic material removed. An autoradiogram is formed by the separation of fragments of radioactively-tagged DNA into bands in an electrical field. The resulting pattern of bands is transferred onto radiographic film.
