Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Proteomics research. Dr Peter Brophy, parasitologist, with a jar of parasitic nematode worms to be studied by protein analysis. Studying the structure and function of proteins (proteomics) improves understanding of how an organism works. The genome (genetic map) of some nematode worms has been completed. This contains the information that determines what proteins an organism makes, but not how they interact in the living organism. Finding key proteins in a parasite provides more information on how the parasite survives in the hostile environment of its host's body. Brophy works at Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK.
