Caption: Grape vine DNA research. Researcher at the University of Milan pipetting DNA, extracted from samples of the Grenache (Vitis sp.) grape variety, into a multi-well sample tray. This formed part of a study where the DNA extracted was analysed to help determine the geographical origin of the vines. Genetic analyses from more than 500 sites revealed that vines do not only have one single origin, as was thought, but several origins around the circumference of the Mediterranean Basin.
