Caption: Grape vine DNA research. Researcher Sara Ardolino at the University of Milan examining the solution prepared from a sample of the Grenache grape variety (Vitis sp.). This formed part of a study where the DNA extracted from different vine samples was analysed to help determine the geographical origin of the vines. Genetic analyses from more than 500 sites revealed that vines do not only have one single origin, as was thought, but several origins around circumference of the Mediterranean Basin.
