Caption: Rats exposed to gamma radiation. Rats being exposed to low-level gamma radiation. This is part of an experiment to study the effects of electromagnetic radiation on live tissue. After the rats have been exposed, they will live their natural life span (up to 3 years) and then an autopsy will look for tumours and other diseases. Gamma radiation is used in medicine for the treatment of cancer. Photographed at the Cancer Research Centre, Ramazzini Foundation, Bologna, Italy.
