Caption: Dogfish research. Ontologist carrying a juvenile lesser spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula) on a perspex tray. The fish is about to be placed in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. MRI is used to study the structure of the internal organs. It uses a strong magnetic field to produce radio emissions from hydrogen atoms in the body. It can image both bone and soft tissues. Ontology is the study of the origin and development of an individual organism from conception to adulthood. Photographed at the University of New Castle upon Tyne, UK.
