Caption: Drug research using insects. Researcher pouring the liquid contents of a beaker into a round-bottomed flask. The beaker contains an elephant beetle (Megasoma actaeon) in a solvent such as methanol or dimethylchloride. It is hoped that biochemical examination of chemicals extracted from this insect will lead to new antibiotic drug compounds. Photographed in Petit-Saut, French Guiana.
