Caption: Bird migration. Doppler radar image of a large flock of birds (blue/green) migrating over Key West, Florida, USA. The densest part of the flock (dark green) has been estimated to contain 6250 birds per square kilometre. Each spring, land and shorebirds migrate through the Florida Keys on their way from wintering grounds in the tropics to summer habitats in North America. The Florida Keys project into the Straits of Florida from mainland USA (top) towards Cuba (bottom). Image compiled using data from the Weather Surveillance Radar (WSR-88D) in Key West, Florida on 28 April 2002.
