Monoclonal antibodies are produced by injecting a mouse with an antigen & harvesting its antibody response by removing the B lymphocytes. These are fused with myeloma (tumour) cells taken from a mutant lymphocyte source. The fusion product is called a hybridoma cell. B lymphocytes are short-lived; when fused with tumour cells, which divide indefinetly, the continuous production of antibody is secured. Hybridomas are screened for the required antibody. Once isolated, it is cloned & produces one type of antibody. Mag X3000 at 6x7cm, x1500 at 35mm size.
