Caption: False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a single hybridoma cell, a source of monoclonal antibody. Hybridomas are produced by injecting a mouse with an antigen & harvesting the resulting B-lymphocytes, the source of antibody raised against the antigen. The B-cells are fused with myeloma (tumour) cells taken from a mutant lymphocyte source. The fusion products are called hybridomas, in which the antibody-secreting characteristics of short-lived B-cells & the longevity of tumour cells are expressed. Hybridomas are isolated then cloned to produce a specific antibody. Magnification unknown.
