Caption: Stem cell researcher using a cell sorting machine to isolate stem cells from adult bone marrow. Stem cells are cells that have the capability of differentiating into specialised forms of cells. This research is looking at stem cells for cartilage, a connective tissue found in joints. The stem cells could be used to grow new cartilage to be injected into the joints of people with conditions like arthritis, or to be used in joint replacement surgery. Photographed at the University of Bristol, UK.
