Human cell interior, computer artwork. On the left is the Golgi apparatus (pink). This organelle functions as a central delivery system for the cell. Its primary function is to modify, store and transport proteins and lipids made elsewhere in the cell. These substances are packaged into swellings that become pinched off as vesicles (spheres just above the Golgi). At bottom centre is the endoplasmic reticulum which surrounds the cell nucleus (bottom right).
