Caption: Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of the nucleus of an acinar cell from the pancreas of the bat, Myotis lucifugus. The circular nucleus dominates the image and displays its double- layered nuclear envelope interspersed with nuclear pores. The nucleolus appears more darkly stained (centre of material) and is surrounded by clumps of chromatin - genetic material. Chromatin is also seen towards the nuclear envelope. The cytoplasm surrounding the nucleus contains mitochondria (circular) and the layers of part of the endoplasmic reticulum are visible. Magnification: x22,000 at 10x8 inch size.
