Caption: Vesicles in ovarian cell. Coloured Scanning Elec- tron Micrograph (SEM) of vesicles in an ovarian theca interna cell. The cell cytoplasm is filled with chains of vesicles (yellow) formed from the membranes of smooth endoplasmic reticulum. Theca interna cells surround the developing egg follicle in the ovary and they secrete hormones. Hormones would be contained in such vesicles. Smooth endo- plasmic reticulum forms a membrane network through the cytoplasm. Many mitochondria (green) occur in such secretory cells, and they play a role in cell respiration. The cell nucleus (pink) is also seen. Magnification: x12,400 at 6x7cm size. x15,850 at 4x5"
