The Golgi apparatus (purple folds, centre) has associated vesicles (round). The Golgi apparatus receives proteins and lipids that are synthesised on the endoplasmic reticulum. It then prepares them for transport elsewhere in the vesicles. The nuclear strands (black) are the chromosomes that contain the genetic material DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA mediates the synthesis of the proteins and lipids. The black dots are ribosomes where the protein synthesis occurs.
