Caption: Scanning electron micrograph of a hooks and loops fastener being pulled apart. It is made of a nylon material manufactured in two separate pieces, one with a hooked surface (right) & the other with a smooth surface made up of loops (left). The loops (left) are loosely woven strands in an otherwise tight weave. The hooks (right) are woven into the fabric & them cut. When the two surfaces are brought together they form a strong bond.
