Caption: False-colour scanning electron micrograph showing a fibre of 'Tactel' threaded through a needle. 'Tactel Micro Fibre' is a polyamide 6.6 synthetic fibre similar to nylon. It is extremely fine, the filaments being about 1/60th the diameter of a human hair. These are then wound to form the thread, or woven to make fabrics or hosiery. Magnification: x40 at 6x4.5cm size.
