Caption: Electronic nose. A bunch of roses being smelt by a human and the NOSE (Neotronics Olfactory Sensing Equipment). NOSE uses twelve conductive polymer sensors to produce a 'fingerprint' of a complex vapour such as the smell of a flower. The changes in the conductivity of the sensors due to various vapour components is displayed on a computer in graphical form. This may be a direct analysis, or the difference between the sample and a reference 'fingerprint' for the product. NOSE may complement or replace human quality control panels in many applications such as the food, beverage, fragrance and tobacco industries. NOSE was developed by Neotronics Technology, a British company.
