Caption: Statue restoration. Researcher Jean-Pierre Adolphe using limestone-secreting bacteria to restore a statue. He is in the caves of Arcy-sur-Cure. The caves consist of large limestone structures formed as water drips down through the rocks, and the bacteria live on the rocks and in the water. The bacteria are being sprayed on the statues to repair damage caused by many years of erosion. Adolphe is from the Paris VI University, Paris, France.
