Caption: Analysis of a Goya painting. Print of a Goya painting (foreground) being compared to a 1:1 scale X-ray of the original painting (background). The portrait, by Francisco Goya (1746-1828), is of the Comtesse de Chinchon. The X-ray has revealed that Goya used the canvas for two earlier artworks that were painted over to produce the final one seen here. The two earlier subjects were the Marquis de Vilafranca and Manual Don Godov. Photographed in the Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain.
