Caption: Fingerprint analysis. Unfired bullets hanging in a cyanoacrylate fuming cupboard. This is a method of making latent fingerprints visible. Latent (non- visible) fingerprints are formed from chemicals (mostly sweat) exuded through skin pores. One way to make latent fingerprints visible is to let them react with a chemical. In this case, cyanoacrylate (super glue) is heated in a sealed container, and forms a gas that reacts with latent fingerprints to form a white sticky solid. This can be dusted to enhance visibility, and then the fingerprints are photographed. These unfired bullets were from a handgun found at a crime scene. The criminal may have left fingerprints when loading the handgun.
