Caption: Skull reconstruction. Remains of a human skull being reassembled on a frame of wire and wax. Forensic scientists rebuild skulls to provide a base for facial reconstruction when there is no other means of identifying skeletal remains. The aim is to provide a likeness of the victim, which might allow them to be identified from missing persons records for example. The face may be reconstructed with modelling clay or digitally by computer.
