Caption: Blood spatter analysis experiment. Image 2 of 2. Wooden block impacting a pool of blood on a pig carcass in a crime simulation exercise that mimics an assailant beating a victim. The block was allowed to fall under its own weight from a short distance. The resulting pattern of blood droplets is a Low Velocity Impact Spatter (LVIS). The droplets of blood produced by the impact are initially spherical. When they collide they become more globular but then return to a spherical shape. The patterns created by blood spatter help investigators determine information about the nature and details of a violent crime. To see an image of the carcass being prepared, see H200/632.
