Caption: A triple-beam balance as used in chemistry laboratories. As its name suggests, the balance uses three beams to provide both a wide working range and the required degree of accuracy. Each beam deals with different scales; the top beam with tens of grammes, the centre beam with hundreds of grammes and the bottom beam with tenths of a gramme. The measurement is read when the end of the balance arm is aligned with the zero mark at far right. The sample of orange potassium ferricyanide on the balance weighs 215g.
